Gyms in Fulham: where to get a sweat on

Fulham’s gyms cater for everyone. Whether you’re just starting out, a seasoned gym-goer looking to up your game, sick of going by yourself or are after something to shake up your routine, the Fulham gym scene is varied and growing by the minute. We’ve rounded up our favourite places to go and break a sweat, no matter what your workout style is.

Fulham gyms for building strength

Motus Strength

If you’re looking for a gym near Fulham Broadway, Motus Strength could be for you. Founded by husband and wife team, Bruce and Colleen Butler, who have backgrounds as physical therapists, their philosophy is about focusing on achievement and ability rather than appearance.

The gym is divided into three sections depending on what you’re working on: CrossFit, Calisthenics and Free Weights. Want to perfect your form before going it alone? They also offer personal training and classes across their three disciplines. Yoga can be a brilliant complementary exercise for these classes; so check out our recommended yoga spots in Fulham if you’d like to add it to your routine.

If you’re a CrossFit beginner, you’ll need to complete a one-month ‘On-ramp’ programme, which is a mixture of PT sessions, group classes and gym access. Depending on how many PT sessions you’d like, these cost £190, £320 or £475 for a month. After that, monthly charges range from £145 to £180, or you can buy bundles of classes with a two-month expiry date. Personal training comes in at £75 an hour for members or £84 an hour if you’re not.

Military Fitness

Military Fitness is a class-based gym just off the Fulham Road. As you might have guessed from the name, it’s run by former British Forces Soldiers and mixes sports science and traditional military fitness methods. They’re logically divided up into upper, lower, core full- body workouts- or join in a ‘Challenger’ class if a bit of healthy competition motivates you.

Your performance will be judged against other groups throughout the day. With multiple reviews calling it one of the toughest gym classes in London, you’ll need to reward yourself with a stiff drink in Fulham afterwards.

You’ll focus on a different muscle group every day, meaning you’ll really reap the benefits if you purchase an unlimited session contract (£140 a month) and attend several times a week. If that sounds too intense, you can give it a go first and pay £25 for a week of unlimited classes. They also have session packs, from £20 for a single class to £200 for 20.

Fulham’s boutique gym classes

Body Society

Body Society on Wandsworth Bridge Road is the perfect choice if you like your gym classes personal and intimate. Alongside offerings such as Strength, HIIT, and Yoga, they have a wide variety of pre and post-natal classes for mums to get back into exercise.

The gym itself is as stylish as you’d expect for a boutique fitness centre, with high-spec equipment and plenty of space. You can purchase a pay-as-you-go package or a monthly rolling membership if you want to train there regularly. One-off classes come in at £23 per class (about average for a gym in Fulham). One downside is that they’re only open from 9am to 12pm at the weekend – but that may be good motivation to get an early sweat on before heading out for a well-earned weekend brunch in Fulham.

Slice

Slice pride themselves on having a fitness class for every taste; they run over 100 classes each week that range from high-intensity TRX and Kettlebells to Barre, Rebound and Dance. With regular pop-ups and intro partnerships with brands such as Sweaty Betty, they’re fully integrated into Fulham’s fitness scene.

Interesting fact: Their studio has an on-site crèche, boutique showers and changing rooms in case you want to go straight out.

If you want to try Slice before you commit, then you can purchase an introductory four classes for £25 – although these have to be completed in 21 days, so make sure that you time your purchase right. Once you’ve finished those, you can buy your classes per month or in bulk packages.

One London

Need variety to keep you interested? One London offers classes to improve your strength, cardio and flexibility within a premium gym studio in Fulham’s Sands End.

If exercising alone is more your thing, their fixed-weight machines sync with all major fitness apps so you can easily track your progress. For those of us that need a group environment to stay focused, classes range from circuits and dance all the way through to a classic spinning class.

Only looking to use the gym studio? It’ll cost you £80 a month or £800 if you pay for the year (although don’t miss the one-off £50 joining fee). Those after a class-based workout as well will pay £120 a month, or £150 if you want to include boxing.

Want to begin your fitness journey with a bang? They also offer 28-day or 8-week transformation packages.

Gyms for something different

Safari Kickboxing

Just ten minutes’ walk up from Fulham Broadway, Safari Kickboxing is run by a team of expert trainers with titles, TV appearances and magazine features under their belts.

Whether you want to learn the art of Muay Thai, how to defend yourself properly or fancy a cardio or strength class with a kickboxing twist, this gym could be the place you find your fitness ‘thing’. They have women-only, men-only and kids’ classes, so you can get involved no matter your training preference.

Safari also have their own range of boxing gloves, wraps, pads and activewear for those that are fully committed to the gym’s brand of fitness.

Prices are very reasonable for a gym in the Fulham area; £42 a month will get you one class a week. For children, that price drops to £24 a month. If you fancy a personal session with one of the trainers, they charge from £19 up to £75.

It’s safe to say you’ll work up a sweat at Safari, so we’ve put together a list of Vegan restaurants in Fulham for some healthy spots to refuel.

Gyms for swimming

David Lloyd

The Fulham branch of David Lloyd is located on top of the Broadway, offering amazing views across the area for your workout. If swimming’s your thing, this is the gym for you: they’ve got a brand new 20m indoor pool and a splash pool to keep the kids busy. Swimming coaching is available for those that want a refresher before getting going on their own.

Outside of the pool, Strength, HIIT, Holistic Classes and Group Cycling are on offer if you prefer exercising in a group, while an extensive free- and fixed-weight gym will keep the solo gym-goers busy.

Need a bit of motivation to get to the gym? David Lloyd also boasts full spa facilities for you to reward yourself post-workout. To find out the damage you’ll need to enquire, as they tailor make packages to suit the individual.
