You don’t need to travel into Central London or out east for a good night out, the sheer variety of bars in Fulham means that it’s fast becoming a nightlife destination in its own right.
Whether you’re in the mood for a fancy wine tasting, a laid-back pint, or just good old-fashioned drinks and dancing, Fulham will have a bar to suit your needs. We’ve included old local favourites as well as some newer establishments that we feel have really made their mark in recent years.
To give you an idea of price, we’ve noted the price of a classic espresso martini- the marker of any good night- in each establishment where possible, so you can cater your evening to your budget as well as your mood.
The Little Blue Door started off as a supper club popup hosted by a group of flatmates before graduating to become a permanent cocktail bar on the Fulham Road. Rather than leave the supper club vibe behind them, they’ve made it the main attraction; the bar is set up like a cosy flat, with a ‘bootroom’ for your coats, a sitting room with comfy sofas and a dancefloor, an office, a kitchen and the best girls’ toilet in the whole of London (we won’t give the surprise away here, but it’s pretty ingenious).
We’d recommend starting the night off by booking into one of their supper clubs, which comes with home-style cooking, shared tables, silly games, and an array of drinks, before continuing your evening upstairs. If you’re coming after dinner elsewhere (our list of Vegan restaurants in Fulham has plenty of recommendations if you need one), then head straight into the sitting room to chill at the bar or dance on the sofas if you so wish. The Little Blue Door’s staff are also great fun, helping guests to feel that they’re at a friend’s house party rather than an actual bar.
Price: The Little Blue Door’s take on an espresso martini is known as a ‘Coffee and Cigarettes’ (all the drinks are named after the flatmates’ favourite films); it’s made up of vanilla-infused Finlandia vodka, salted caramel and coffee, and will set you back £9.50.
Simmons made it onto our list for having (possibly) the longest happy hour of any cocktail bar in Fulham: you’ve got a whole five hours to take advantage of two of the same cocktails for £10. They’ve got a whopping 25 cocktails on their list, and plenty of alternatives if you’re the designated driver.
There’s no chance of a boring time at Simmons- they’ve got a beer pong table and a games console if you’re in need of a break from the dance floor and offer bottomless afternoon teas as a fun alternative to bottomless brunch (there are plenty of those in the area though- here’s our list of the best bottomless brunches in Fulham if you want to start drinking even earlier).
Price: Simmons serve up two classic espresso martinis for just £10 during happy hour- if that’s not a reason to go there as soon as possible, we don’t know what is!
Vagabond Wines is probably already on your radar, but we think this branch, near Fulham Broadway, is one of the best wine bars in Fulham: its popularity with locals creates a buzzing, cosy atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxed night out.
Their unique concept is the main draw- customers pre-load a card and then use this to serve themselves tasters from an extensive selection of wines. There are tasting notes helpful for wine buffs and newbies alike, and the staff are happy to talk through your choices and make recommendations if you’d like them. Once you’ve landed on a wine- or two- that you’d like to have more of, it most likely works out cheaper to have it by the glass as there’s a £10 corkage charge. Make sure you leave room for some of their food too- they’ve got a cured meat and cheese selection and small Mediterranean sharing plates that are just as enjoyable to sample as the wines themselves.
Price: No cocktails to be had here, and the price of your evening will depend on which, and how many, wines you sample. It’s certainly not on the cheaper end of the spectrum- as anyone would expect from a wine bar in Fulham- but we’d say it’s reasonable pitted against other wine tasting experiences in London.
Tip: It’s the perfect place to reward yourself after a tough class at The Hot Spot, one of our recommend yoga studios in Fulham, which is right round the corner.
Whether you want to catch a specific match or want to settle in for the whole evening, Frankie’s is the sports bar in Fulham to go to. They boast 16 big screens and cater to all sporting tastes by aiming to show every live sport game on TV. They’re got table seating and a menu if you’d like to make a night of it, or plenty of room to sit at the bar or stand- bonus points for their outdoor seating as well to make the most of a summer evening. The bar is right next to Motus Strength and Military Fitness, two of our recommended gyms in Fulham, if you’d like to get your own sport out of the way before an evening of watching others play it.
Price: Frankie’s have a decent beer selection, and while there aren’t any espresso martinis on their list, they have a number of classic cocktails all priced at £8.75.
Tip: We’d recommend booking ahead if your visit coincides with a Fulham or Chelsea match- it gets pretty hectic on these days (in the best possible way!).
No list of the best pubs in Fulham would be complete without The White Horse: a real favourite with locals affectionately known as the Sloaney Pony. Its location- right on Parsons Green, about a minute from the tube- makes it an ideal place to drop in after work. We’d recommend getting in early to secure a table, as it usually stays pretty busy right up until closing time, and then heading up Fulham Broadway way if you’re after cocktails and a dance floor later on in the evening.
Price: Cocktails tend to be a bit steep at The White Horse, so we’d recommend sticking with their extensive selection of beers and wines. We like how they have no and low alcohol options as well, so non-drinkers don’t feel like they’re missing out.
If you’re after a pub near Fulham Broadway, then you can’t go wrong with Aragon House. It boasts two picturesque outdoor spaces, a fantastic restaurant, and a well-stocked wine list that includes all the classics. Conveniently located near all the excitement, you will feel comfortable and at home in its cozy atmosphere. With a reputation for serving a great BBQ in London, Aragon House is the perfect place to watch a football game, relax in the garden, or simply savor a warm summer day. Our Fulham estate agents are based right next door – be sure to pop in and say hi.
Price: Espresso Martini’s aren’t on their menu, but we hear rumours that it might be worth asking at the bar. Most pints in Aragon House hover around the £6 mark, which is about average for the area, and their wine list has something for every taste- and budget.
Cock Tavern bills itself as ‘better than your average Fulham boozer’, and we think we agree. They’ve got lively retro-style décor- we particularly love the bright outdoor area- and a brilliant calendar of events for you to enjoy while having a drink. Their pub quiz on Thursdays is not to be missed, and it’s worth keeping an eye on the website to see what’s coming up- they often celebrate special calendar days with offers on their food and drink.
Price: A classic or rum espresso martini will set you back £8.00, though we’d also recommend checking out their interesting craft beer list- Young’s Banana Beer or Double Chocolate Stout anyone?
