Cocktail Bars in Clapham: An Insider’s Guide

Whether it’s time to hit the town on Friday night or you’re in need of a cosy pub to curl up in on a rainy Sunday afternoon, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Clapham. In fact, if you’re looking for cocktails in Clapham, you might find yourself overwhelmed by the sheer choice!

Clapham has become one of London’s nightlife hot spots, so you can afford to be picky about where you spend your evening. If you’re making an entire night of it, why not try a vegan restaurant in Clapham for dinner, or lap up a bottomless brunch if you’re starting early, before heading out for (more) drinks.

So you can get an overview of how all these different places measure up, we’ve gathered the cost of a Mojito (or the nearest equivalent) in each place to compare. We’ll leave the choice to you, depending on how fancy or frugal you’re feeling.

Clapham Junction

For a quiet drink…The Four Thieves

If you like your drinks with a side order of old fashioned 80s inspired arcade gaming then you’ve come to the right place. At the Four Thieves, get stuck into a remote-controlled car race, plug into their VR rooms and play zero-gravity games, or even go for a round of golf. If you’re more into gaming IRL they’ve also got an escape room, so you can real-life solve your way out of a puzzle with a group of friends.

We recommend popping along to one of their ‘All In Mondays’, where you can get a burger and a drink, as well as a turn on everything they offer at the Four Thieves – a race, a VR session and a round of indoor golf – for £25.

They have an exhaustive gin menu called the Gincyclopedia, as well as all the craft beer (since they are also a brewery) that your heart could desire.

Price of a double rum and mixer: £8.90

For cocktail hour…Sugar Cane

Tiki-style tropical paradise Sugar Cane is a cocktail bar hidden in the heart of Clapham Junction. If rum is your thing, this might be the place for you. Sugar Cane also sell party packages of drinks that include bubbles and ‘boats on fire’ – a boat of alcohol served to your table alight! This lively and intimate venue is the perfect place to kick off your evening, with a happy hour from 4 to 7pm every Friday and Saturday.

You can get your dancefloor fix here too, with a DJ playing floor fillers from the charts and beyond on Fridays and Saturdays. Or join them for ‘Hurricane Season’, with burlesque dancers and live drums.

Price of a Mojito: £8.50

To dance until dawn…Lost Society

Lost Society promises a night out to suit every mood. With live jazz and DJs on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as a Disco Brunch on Saturday morning if you can’t get enough, this place offers something for everyone.

Grab a booth in their main bar or head out onto the vine-covered terrace and enjoy their creative cocktail menu, as well as live music and a ‘Lost in Brazil’ Brazilian music night every Sunday. If you love Brazilian dancing, you could also work it into your exercise routine at one of Clapham’s class-based gyms.

Price of a (‘Polish’) Mojito: £9.50

Clapham North

For a quiet drink…The Landor

This gorgeous old building has long been the home of The Landor, beloved local pub and fringe participating theatre. It’s the perfect place to play a couple rounds of pool, relax in the beer garden and catch up with friends. With high ceilings, hidden snugs and cosy booths, The Landor could become your local watering hole.

This is also a sports pub, so settle in here for the season in the heart of the Clapham community. There’s also a pub quiz and bingo that runs every first and third Sunday of the month, with prizes and drinks to be won! Also check out the upstairs theatre here, for everything from plays and stand-up comedy to lectures on space.

Price of a double rum and mixer: £8.00

For cocktail hour…64th & Social

An award-winning cocktail bar in the heart of Clapham High Street, 64th & Social is a cosy little nightspot that turns into a Funk, Hip Hop, House, Disco and R&B dancefloor on Friday and Saturday nights. A chic bar with a New York inspired interior and cosy booths for big groups, check out the hashtag #64thSocial for some highlights from nights out there and to get a feel for the vibe. We love the Cactus Cocaine cocktail, made with El Jimador blanco, Grand Marnier, lime juice, agave, and topped with Prosseco.

Happy Hour is from 6pm until 10pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 6pm until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Price of a Mojito: £9.50

To dance until dawn…Fu Manchu

Fu Manchu is a brilliant venue: by day, a Chinese-themed eatery, and by night a nightclub bursting with life under the railway arches of Clapham North. With exposed brick walls, pop mashups and drinks packages like the ‘Diana Ross’ – one bottle of Grey Goose Vodka, one bottle of Moët and five Jägermeister shots, this place has to go on your bucket list. Or try the Fairy Tail: a blend of Bacardi Oro, Plantation Overproof dark rum and Pama pomegranate liqueur garnished with popping candy.

If dancing is what you’re after, this is the perfect place to end (or begin) your Friday or Saturday night. Currently running a night called ‘The Last Days of Disco’, stop by Fu Manchu for a sparkly evening you’re sure to remember.

The closest thing you’ll get to a Mojito here is a Mai Chai (a twist on the Mai Tai): £9.50

Clapham Old Town

For a quiet drink… No.32 The Old Town

No.32 The Old Town is the perfect place to start your evening. A classy and elegant main bar and pub space with an open fireplace that opens out onto one of the best roof terraces in Clapham, overlooking Clapham Common. With a delicious food menu alongside the cocktails, you could easily spend a few hours here before venturing out to see what Clapham Old Town has to offer.

Price of a (‘Golden Pineapple’) Mojito: £10

For cocktail hour…@Bar

If you’re looking for a classic cocktail bar by Clapham Common you won’t be disappointed by @Bar. Intimate little tables and an Art Deco-inspired interior make this a beautiful place to while away the evening before heading out for a dance. With an extensive cocktail menu, as well as some tasty looking mocktails for anyone in your party not drinking, a tapas menu and live DJs at the weekend, who could ask for more!

Price of a Mojito: £10.00

To dance until dawn…Venn Street Records

Get your dancing shoes on at Venn Street Records, a funky night spot covered with newspaper cuttings and full of the sounds of electric guitars and spinning vinyl. With so much more on the calendar than just your standard club night, they’ve got bands like Permageddon playing 80s hair rock until the early hours, or the Hollaback night of 90s and 00s classics and chilled out acoustic Sunday sessions to help you nurse your hangover.

Happy hour is from 5pm till 8pm every day; we love the two pizzas and two drinks for £19 deal you can get from Sunday to Wednesday evenings.

Price of a Mojito: £9.50
