Get the Look: Regency

If you enjoyed travelling back in time with our 80s look, then you’re going to love where we’re going next. Celebrating the best of Regency interiors, dating as far back as the 1800s, this shows how you can dress a room with classic features from the era, including lavish dressing tables, ornate mirrors, and luxurious bed linen.

Interiors from the Regency period can usually be recognised by grand window drapes, intricately decorated furniture, and detailed wall decorations drawing upon Grecian, Egyptian and oriental influences.

In other words, it’s elegance at its finest.

We just couldn’t help but spot the similarities with one of our favourite characters from our Matching People and Property campaign, who has arrived straight from the 19th century!

With his opulent overcoat and gracefully positioned monocle, we were inspired to transform this look into an interior style reminiscent of Regency grandeur, and we discovered some fantastic London-based brands along the way too…

Achieving the look

Still intrigued to know more about decorating your home with the classic touch? We’ve called upon design and interiors expert, Geraldine Tan, founder of Little Big Bell to share her hints and tips on how to get the look.

“The Regency look is all about glamour and elegance. To create a similar look in the bedroom, use lavish fabrics, such as silk and taffeta, in the bedding or draped around windows with a swag and tail effect, embellished with tassels and cords.

Simple panelling on the walls painted in neutral tones, paired with an ornate ceiling and chandelier creates a lavish glitzy style worthy of the aristocracy.

When it comes to furniture and accessories, curves at the back of chairs, or legs of dressers in dark woods such as mahogany or rosewood, give the room a feminine and noble touch. Mirrors or metal inlays, and accents, also add the opulence commonly seen in Regency style bedrooms.”

If this look from our first Get the Look series has left you feeling suitably decadent, we’d love to see the results in your home. Share your Regency inspired styling on Instagram and tag @marshandparsons and use #getthelook.
