King’s Cross has been many things over the last 150 years: Cattle Market, derelict industrial yard, warehouse clubbing hotspot. Holding onto aspects of its past, such as the canal and the bare bones of many of the old warehouses, this area has mixed the old with the new in a way that has a uniquely London essence to it.

Perfect for students and professionals, King’s Cross mixes shopping and architectural wonder to create an area that draws people in from all over London. Converted factories and stylish mansion houses, as well as walkable access to the city and St Pancras International station, make it a hotspot for business people and those who need to travel for work. On top of that, its proximity to Central St. Martin’s College campus has meant that a plethora of new restaurants, shops and designer showrooms have opened in response to the young, artistic influence the college brings.

 

Living in King’s Cross

The magic of King’s Cross begins at platform 9 ¾ but continues out into the rest of the new development. Just a short walk from the main station, Granary Square is a wide, open space that allows you to take a break from the towering skyscrapers of central London. Next door, Coal Drops Yard is host to a myriad of bars and restaurants, like the award-winning Barrafina, as well as a number of independent and recognisable stores. An easily walkable area, you can stroll by Regent’s Canal or head down to Parkside for a touch of the countryside in the center of the city. With the British Library just around the corner, and a number of informative placards around the area, you’ll always be learning more about the history of London at King’s Cross.

Don’t miss: Lower Stable Street Market, which is on every weekend in Coal Drops Yard. Home to a rotating roster of over 40 stallholders, each weekend you’re sure to find something exciting and new.
