Marsh & Parsons in Holloway

Since the closing of Holloway prison in 2016 Holloway has seen a rise in popularity, with young professionals and independent businesses moving to the area in droves. Split down the middle by Holloway road, here you’ll find quiet, residential housing, including many converted Victorian houses, as well as a number of social housing estates and new build homes. Ideally located for green spaces, to the north is the iconic Finsbury Park, and to the south is Highbury Fields, with Gillespie Park in the middle of it all. A more affordable alternative to Islington or Highgate, access to central and north London is incredibly easy due to Arsenal and Caledonian Road Underground stations, which are on the Piccadilly line, and the buses that run down Holloway Road. With lots of shops, restaurants and things to do, as well as exciting nightlife to explore, Holloway is the area to keep your eye on.

Living in Holloway

We can’t mention Holloway without starting with the Emirates stadium. A huge part of the area, you will find die-hard Arsenal fans in the pubs such as The Lamb, which has been open since 1870, before every game. Don’t worry though – there’s still plenty to see and do aside from football. Those who want a quirkier pub experience can head over to the Owl and Hitchhiker. Named after local legend Douglas Adams’ book ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’, weekends here consist of bottomless drag brunches and an extremely vegan-friendly daily food menu. For seafood lovers, Westerns Laundry is making a name for itself as one of north London’s must-visit restaurants, with an emphasis on ethically sourced food and natural wines. If you need a break from the hustle and bustle, you can take a class at The North London Buddhist centre, which offers a wide range of activities to promote health and happiness: exactly what you need after a commute on the tube. Perfect for pub crawls, park walks and London connections, and with London Metropolitan University within its folds, Holloway is buzzing with life.

Don’t miss: Freightliners City Farm, a small, 2.5-acre community farm with year-round access to cows, sheep, goats and chickens. Pop into the on-site Strawbale Cafe for cake, coffee and lunches made from the farm’s own produce.
