If you are interested in both a sales and rental valuation, please select Sales.
With residential living sitting alongside a lively night scene, it could be said that Dalston has the best of both worlds. Classic 18th and 19th-century terraces dominate the area, with many of the large Victorian and Georgian properties now split into flats, as well as a great number of new homes in development. Kingsland Road sits at the epicentre of this thriving neighbourhood, where you’ll find everything from cocktails bars to plants shops, as well as a renowned music scene.
For the younger crowd – both renters and first-time buyers – there are centrally located apartments with 24-hour concierge and gyms, while for families, tree-lined avenues and ‘Outstanding’ schools are at their fingertips. A cultural and creative hub, Dalston is an area that shines with increasing brightness as more and more independent businesses choose to call this neighbourhood home.
Bordering Islington and Shoreditch, Dalston has consistently changed with the times. Alongside a long and rich musical history, supported by several long-standing venues, you’ll also find a number of new bars, such as the local favourite High Water. Known as the ‘bar for bartenders’, the shabby-chic interior may look deceptively plain but you won’t regret ordering a cocktail or two here. Before sampling the local drinks, perhaps head over to Tin Café, for an assortment of homemade cake, pastries and sandwiches. If you’re looking for a bit of both, then Chick’ n’ Sours serves succulent fried chicken best enjoyed with sour cocktails.
The arts have played a huge role in shaping the area, with the Arcola Theatre on Ashwin street proving you don’t have to be in the West End to see the best performances. You may also want to head over to the Rio, an independent art deco cinema showing both art and first-release films, to get a taste of what Dalston may have looked like 100 years ago. In Dalston it can feel as though a new café, restaurant or venue is opening every week, meaning you’ll never feel stuck for choice. When looking to travel, take the Overground from Dalston Kingsland or Dalston Junction into the city centre, or out into the rest of London.
Exciting and inclusive, there’s something for everyone here.
Don’t miss: Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, which is a little oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Located on an old railway line, the garden features colourful flowers and plants that are an attractive alternative to the neighbourhood’s built-up surroundings.
