Marsh & Parsons is not your typical estate agent, as shown by their unique brand campaign. This is reflected in the people they employ; I felt so relaxed in my first interview I knew it was a good match.
My career ambitions were always rooted in marketing, so I studied Psychology at university, focusing on Consumer and Behavioural Psychology modules. I then completed a CIM Digital Marketing Professional Diploma once I started working, studying alongside my role in sales and digital marketing for an independent antique jewellery and silver specialist. After travelling for five months in South and Central America, I moved to London and joined Marsh & Parsons.
I started in our Clapham office as an Office Coordinator, before being promoted to Senior Office Coordinator. After 11 months in front office, I was delighted to secure a position in the Marketing department as a PR and Content Marketing Coordinator.
Two years this August – time flies!
I won the ‘Office Excellence’ award when I was an OC and also a ‘Living the Values: One M&P’ award following my coordination and involvement in several (successful) awards entries last year.
Any new starter at Marsh & Parsons has to complete a three-day induction course, which gives them a full overview of the business, as well as role-specific training. The information provided during this is invaluable and helps set up all new starters with a sound knowledge of the business and its values.
Throughout my time as an Office Coordinator I had regular appraisals with my managers to discuss my career aspirations, as well as Etiquette training on how to be a good brand ambassador. Following my move to Marketing, I have participated in thorough training in areas across my role and regularly attend seminars and talks to further my knowledge of the property industry and marketing practices/trends.
Whilst they were recruiting for my replacement in Clapham, I had regular meetings with the Marketing department and began to take some of the responsibilities of the role. Knowing the company so well definitely helped me transition smoothly into the role, along with the excellent support of the Marketing management team.
To succeed in the Office Coordinator role, you must be extremely organised, have excellent time management and learn how to multitask. These skills are undeniably important in any role, especially a role in Marsh & Parsons’ busy Marketing department. The Office Coordinator role also helped me grow my confidence and people management skills; as the first impression of the business you are constantly engaging with clients and also ensuring the team in the office are abiding by the strict office presentation rules.
Marsh & Parsons has a fantastic social atmosphere that I think would be hard to find at other companies. Aside from this, the brand is incredibly unique and being a part of its journey is incredibly exciting. The exposure to our incredible Chairman, Michael Baulk, who is part of ‘the brains’ behind our campaign, is something not many Marketing Coordinators would have access to.
Above all, I love how adaptable our brand campaign is and, as part of the marketing team, I have the opportunity to contribute to its success. For example, we developed a campaign to celebrate the wonderful women in the business this year for International Women’s Day, using the People with Wonderful Properties executions.
Be open with your manager from the beginning if you have an interest in progressing into another position in the business, so they can work with you to help you achieve your goals. Being an Office Coordinator is a great entry role that provides you with adaptable skills for most careers.
