What attracted you to Marsh Parsons?

I was first attracted to Marsh & Parsons because I knew and recognised the brand. I was looking to expand my knowledge of the London property market, so an established and well-respected estate agency seemed like the perfect place to start.

What was your background before you started at Marsh & Parsons?

I had graduated from Newcastle University and was about to begin a postgraduate degree in Real Estate Development based in London, following a year of travelling. I was looking for a job that would expand my knowledge of the London property market and give me further work experience in an office environment.

Becoming an Office Coordinator for Marsh & Parsons meant that I was immersed in the world of London property and it helped me develop invaluable professional skills in operations and communication.

What positions have you held at Marsh & Parsons?

I started as an Office Coordinator in Little Venice for around 10 months and then moved to Battersea as a Sales Negotiator in September 2017. I’m now based in North Kensington.

How long have you worked at Marsh & Parsons?

I’ve been with Marsh & Parsons for just over two years.

What recognition have you received whilst being at Marsh & Parsons?

As Office Coordinator in the Little Venice office, I was proud to win an award for ‘Office Excellence’. This was a really nice surprise and it was lovely to know that my managers had nominated me.

How has Marsh & Parsons supported you throughout your career?

Marsh & Parsons have been very supportive throughout my career so far. When you start you’re given comprehensive training, not just in your own role but also in every area of the company, to give you a solid understanding of the company framework.

I have received frequent training and assessment to ensure a high standard of service is maintained and to provide guidance on any new procedures. Marsh & Parsons take an active interest in your career progression and I regularly sit down with my manager to discuss my future goals and how to achieve these.

How were you supported in your transition from Office Coordinator to your new role?

Making the move from Office Coordinator to Sales Negotiator was quite a jump for me as I’d never been in sales-based role before. I received further training in Head Office which gave me a better understanding of the different aspects of the job and introduced me to the fundamentals of negotiation.

When I arrived at my new office, I received office-based training from my new manager and Regional Sales Director. I took the time to get to know the new area where I was based and the properties I would be showing. I was guided in how to structure my day and I spent time shadowing my colleagues on their viewings. When I was ready to book my own viewings, my manager was always on hand to provide assistance where needed.

What skills did you develop as an Office Coordinator that have helped you in your current role?

I think the skills I learned and developed as an Office Coordinator have proved invaluable for my transition to the role of Sales Negotiator. Most importantly was the ability to adapt easily to new or unexpected situations and speak with different people every day. I also found that my time as an Office Coordinator had given me a solid understanding of the different stages of the sales process and of the London property market in general.

What do you love about working for Marsh & Parsons?

The best thing for me about working at Marsh & Parsons is the people you get to work with. Marsh & Parsons actively encourage a positive and social atmosphere in the workplace which makes coming into work every day enjoyable. In a job with such variety, where no two days are the same, it’s great to be surrounded by colleagues who are both knowledgeable and approachable so that no challenge ever feels insurmountable.

What advice would you give to new Office Coordinators starting at Marsh & Parsons?

I would encourage any new Office Coordinators starting at Marsh & Parsons to throw themselves into the role with an open mind for the opportunities it could bring. It’s a great way to gain experience in the London property market with a highly respected company and meet like-minded property professionals. What I thought would be a short-term job to gain experience has become a new career path and I’m so grateful for all the people at Marsh & Parsons who have made this possible.
