Home » Paul’s gearing up for LandAid House’s SleepOut in freezing temperatures

Tonight Paul Christian, Sales Manager of our Islington and Shoreditch office, is bravely taking on the elements and sleeping under the stars at LandAid House’s SleepOut event. Following this week’s arrival of the ‘beast from the east’, the night is forecast to be freezing, so I’m sure you’ll join us in wishing Paul the best of luck!
LandAid is a property industry charity whose aim is ‘provide safe, suitable and affordable accommodation for young people facing homelessness, giving them a brighter future’. They work alongside a number of charities, who all aim to help end youth homelessness in the UK, providing them small and medium grants.
LandAid launched an appeal on the 1st March 2017 to raise at least £1.5m, in order to offer young homeless people a place to live. This money will be used to redevelop the former City YMCA hostel near Old Street into a pioneering building with 146 bedrooms.
LandAid plan to open LandAid House in summer 2019, where it will offer young people a safe place to live, as well as a housing, education, training and well-being advice centre. LandAid will operate a two-year ‘Move-On’ programme, where participants will learn the skills needed to live independently, helping young homeless people have a promising future and breaking the vicious cycle of homelessness that we often see.
Being hosted for the first time, SleepOut sees over 200 property industry professionals joining together and spending a night sleeping outside. Each participant is required to raise a minimum of £150, which when totalled will be the £75,000 needed to provide three, fully furnished bedrooms in a shared flat at the LandAid House.
How often do we take for granted having a house to return to every evening? For many young people in London facing homelessness, having the security of a place to call home is simply a dream. Instead, they’re forced to sleep in uncomfortable and overcrowded hostels, or worse still, on the streets. The number of homeless young people in London has doubled since 2011 and LandAid is hoping to tackle and put an end to this crisis. The charity aims to grant people a fresh start in life and help them towards a promising future.
Paul has already raised £415, however if you would like to help him surpass his £500 goal, then please donate here.
