It’s that time of year again, when the clocks have gone forward and daylight hours have increased. Spring is here and we are ready to welcome it with open arms. When you think of spring, you often think of sunshine, new growth and spring cleans. That’s because it’s the perfect time of year to blow out the cobwebs that may have collected, and prepare your home for sale. Here are five simple steps you can take to get your home in shape…
In the winter months, if you’re lucky enough to have a garden, it may have taken a back seat. No one wants to venture out in the cold and pouring rain, and let’s face it, plants haven’t got much to offer you either. Now it’s the best time for a tidy up, begin pruning those bushes and planting those bulbs to revitalise your garden for the summer months once again. An abandoned garden can be really off putting.
De-stress yourself. One of the most stressful things in life is moving house, and the most stress relieving thing you can do, is to get rid of some unwanted junk. Take it down to the local charity shop or store it neatly, hidden out of sight. Clear environments allow for clear minds, leaving your buyers to really imagine their potential new lives in your clutter-free home.
There’s not much to see from your windows in winter except darkness, bare trees, wet weather and if you’re really lucky, the odd bit of sunshine. So you might not have noticed that your windows may have become a little murky perhaps. Let there be light! Allow the natural brightness to flood your home and revive those senses. Spring is the perfect season to get those windows scrubbed, allowing buyers to enjoy the ever-blooming landscape. Small improvements like these are essential, it can really make your home stand out from others.
There’s no need for a new paint job if it’s not necessary, but the décor you already have can make a huge impact. Depersonalise your home, remove those treasured family photos and allow buyers to imagine theirs instead. The beloved kid’s drawings stuck to the fridge, these aren’t so adorable to strangers. The odd jobs can make a huge difference in the way others will feel about your home. Don’t let anything distort their imagination.
It may seem obvious, but colour in the home can be much needed following the dreary winter spell, it’s a fantastic way to brighten up rooms (and moods) in an instant. Pantone’s colour of the year is Greenery, which evokes spring, the great outdoors and new growth. Lift buyer’s spirits with subtle green accessories and fresh illuminating flowers across your home.
Spring is a great season for anyone looking to sell or let their property and first impressions really do count. If you’re considering selling your home, read about our expert selling advice for some extra tips in presenting your home to its full potential.
