Why did you choose M&P?

Having been in the industry previously, I knew that Marsh & Parsons had a great reputation with clients in the areas they operate in. It also had a fast-paced, meritocratic environment – making it very attractive for me as a young and energetic negotiator.

What do you like most about working for M&P?

I love the brand support you get around you; from a top marketing team that brings attention to the company as a whole and individual offices, to the client services team that get us through the doors of the best properties in London, to the managers who win the business and create the presence. Altogether they ensure the highest quality of buyers, tenants, landlords and sellers to create the market that is so unique to M&P. The business model and remuneration aspect here is unparalleled within the industry – both in terms of the environment to succeed, and the individually incentivised structure that encourages top performers to thrive. Along with this, the social life has been a very strong factor in my length of service as I have made some fantastic friends over the years, benefited from training from some top mentors within the industry and been inspired to continue working hard – whilst also having the opportunity to help young, vibrant personalities work their own way through the ranks.

What was your background before you started?

With a university degree in Philosophy and Psychology I had no idea what I wanted to do and I fell into a job in estate agency. This job very quickly became a career for life when I discovered how vibrant the London property market was, and I think always will be. Having previously worked at a rival firm, I already knew the reputation Marsh & Parsons had, and I knew this was the company for me in the long-term.

How have you progressed whilst working here?

My personal progression has been individually tailored for me. I started back in 2009 as a lettings negotiator in Fulham. After proving myself, I was promoted to ‘Senior’ and then coached through to management – initially becoming Assistant Manager of Fulham and Brook Green, and going on to open and manage the then new Bishop’s Park office. After that success, I felt a call back to sales and moved across to North Kensington – back to my roots where it all started in Notting Hill 10 years ago – as a sales negotiator. Most recently, I became Sales Manager of that office and was recently promoted to Senior Sales Manager.

Any advice for new starters?

Absorb everything. I live by the rule that as long as I’m alive I will learn, and as long as I learn I’ll be alive. My first ever director told me that this job is not difficult to do, but it’s not easy to do well. So, when you first start, observe your manager and your senior colleagues – they’ve achieved their positions because they’re good at what they do, and you can benefit from their knowledge and guidance as long as you’re humble enough to listen. Secondly, work harder than you ever have – every promotion over the years has taught me that you can always dig a bit deeper, and if your job excites you, you’ll discover a work ethic you never thought you had. That’s the most efficient route to success in any endeavour. Thirdly, make yourself known – have confidence in your ability to shine and stand out from the crowd. If you’re through the front door of any M&P office it’s because the directors believe in you and they also feel your personality is a fit into the brand – so don’t forget to let your personality shine, whether it’s with your clients or colleagues. Last and by no means least, remember that the company works as a team, and at some point there will be people in every department here that you’ll require some help from – so make sure you build cross-departmental relationships quickly and maintain them.
