Pancake Day in London – Where should you go?

Whilst we agree that there’s nothing quite as fun as making your own, London is teeming with restaurants hosting traditional and alternative Pancake Day pop-ups and special menus. We’ve picked five of the best for you to visit tomorrow, so branch out from the classic lemon and sugar and try one of these interesting combinations!

1. Where the Pancakes Are

The clue really is in the name at Where the Pancakes Are, and on Shrove Tuesday it will be joining forces with Rubies in the Rubble, an initiative tackling food waste, to create a ‘Thoughtful Pancake’. Head down to Flat Iron Square where the pop-up will be in Après, a super cosy chalet. Need to work up an appetite? Take part in their three-legged pancake races before tucking into the extensive menu on offer. There are still walk-in slots, so make sure you get down there early!

2. The Breakfast Club

Infamous brunch spot The Breakfast Club is hosting a Pancake Club between 12th and 18th February. As well as their usual selection of pancakes, they’ve created a limited edition collaboration menu of ‘pancake dreams’, including ‘Eton mess tour de force’ with Meringue Girls, ‘pizza pancake madness’ with Pizza Pilgrims and ‘fried chicken triumphs’ with Coqfighter. Fancy yourself a contender in Man vs. Food? Why not try their annual Pancake Day Challenge, with all profits going to their volunteering program, Good Day Productions. The rules? If you can eat a stack of 12 pancakes in 12 minutes you’ll get them free, if not then you’ll pay the full price – simple!

3. My Old Dutch

We couldn’t have a pancake restaurant round-up without including My Old Dutch. Established in 1958, their restaurants offer extraordinary savoury and sweet creations and are not for the faint-hearted. Fancy their Marshmallow Explosion, featuring butterscotch pancakes topped with single cream, marshmallows, oreos, raspberries, oreo chips ice cream and Nutella? Or for the savoury lovers the selection is endless. They don’t take reservations, so make sure you head down early – they’re sure to be queueing out of the door!

2. Deliciously Ella

Foodie celebrations can be quite stressful for vegans and those with allergies, especially on a day like Pancake Day. Luckily, London offers flipping good vegan restaurants now, many of which are hosting their own pancake parties. Famous for her best-selling books, Ella Mills also owns a series of London delis. This Shrove Tuesday head to Weighhouse Street and enjoy her made-to-order ‘live’ pancakes. You can pick from a selection of toppings, including classic lemon juice and coconut sugar, salted caramel CoYo with chopped pecans and chocolate chips, which are all vegan-friendly!

3. Mr Bao

Famed for the ‘lightest, fluffiest buns in London’, Mr Bao has fast become a go-to spot for Taiwanese food in London. If a traditional pancake isn’t your thing, then Mr Bao has the answer for you; this Pancake Day they will be serving a house special in the form of a savoury pancake, stuffed full of spring onions and sesame seeds, fried until crispy and topped with homemade kimchi, basil and a fried egg. Our mouths are watering just imagining it!

We don’t know about you, but we’re feeling very hungry after reading that. We hope we’ve inspired you to try somewhere new this Pancake Day. Still prefer to stay in and cook your own but fallen out of love with your kitchen? Then take a look at our properties for sale and to let, across our 29 branches, and find your dream kitchen in time for next year!
