Fireworks Events in London
Thu 02 Nov 2017
London was the home of the infamous Gunpowder plot that saw Guido Guy Fawkes plan to blow up the Houses of Parliament and King James I, on 5th November 1605. Fast forward 412 years, us Londoner’s still love to celebrate his failed attempt. We gather around enormous bonfires at cricket clubs, sports fields and parks and watch fabulous firework displays, whilst enjoying a mulled wine or two and the many tasty treats on offer.
With so many events in London this weekend we’ve picked five explosive displays to help you decide which to attend! Don’t forget your gloves and hat – it could get chilly!
Home of the Nappy Valley, gates open to this family friendly fireworks display at 6pm on Saturday 4th November. This year’s theme is ‘Power’ and features a 22-minute long firework display to a backdrop of pop tunes set to light up your world, starting at 8pm. Warm yourself by the bonfire and watch the ‘skies of Wandsworth ignite’ whilst enjoying the many food and drink offerings available. Don’t forget cash – there’s no card facilities onsite!
Breathtaking fireworks displays combined with an awesome beer festival – is there a better combination? Head to Alexandra Palace this weekend and enjoy panoramic views of London, coupled with a laser show and fireworks display, all set to a playlist complied by DJ Yoda. Whilst you’re waiting, take a spin on the ice rink, do your best ‘Catherine Wheel’ impression at the fairground and warm your cockles with a beer in the festival tent.
With its name-sake having burnt down itself in 1936, Crystal Palace is no stranger to fire. After two sell-out years, the Crystal Palace bonfire returns on Sunday 5th November, featuring both a child-friendly, soundtrack-driven showcase (with fewer bangs) and a main family show later in the evening. Starting at 8.30pm, the main event will feature all the crackles, sparkles and bangs you are hoping for!
Victoria Park – Free admission!
Perhaps one of the only free firework events left in London, the Tower Hamlets bonfire claims to be the largest fireworks evening in London, and is hosted by the local Mayor. Doors open at 5.30pm on Sunday 5th November, and the dazzling display starts at 7pm. The fireworks will be ignited to a soundtrack of both contemporary and classical tunes akin to this year’s sci-fi theme. Wait, did we mention it was free?
Looking for an opportunity to whip out your ‘80s shell suit? Then head to the Athletic Ground in Richmond on Sunday 5th November for a family friendly fireworks display set to classic ‘80s pop singles! We can’t promise your children won’t be embarrassed when you’re singing along! With a funfair, mulled wine and food stalls, as well as an after-party in the Members’ Bar, be sure to get there early when the doors open at 4:30pm to enjoy all that’s on offer!
