London Evening Standard: Olivier, Harold Wilson and Dylan Thomas were here
Wed 13 Mar 2013
The former studio of British artist Ruskin Spear is for sale. Willoughby House, built in 1840 and overlooking Ravenscourt Park, was where Spear painted scenes of Hammersmith life and his famous portraits of Laurence Olivier and Harold Wilson.
Current owner Sarah Fairbairn, who turned the studio into a luxurious six-bedroom home, has listed the impressive property for 4 million with Marsh & Parsons.
"Spear also used to paint characters from the pub opposite", she says. "A sweet old lady once called in and told me that people such as Dylan Thomas would come here. It is a great party house."
In the summer, celebrations can be taken outside to the lovely 80ft garden - a pretty picture in itself.
