Press Release: Marsh & Parsons to Sponsor Inaugural Barnes Music Festival
Fri 18 Jan 2013
Marsh & Parsons is pleased to be sponsoring the launch of a brand new Barnes Music Festival in March. The festival, organised by Barnes Music Society, the Barnes Choir and the Friends of St Marys Barnes, will take place between Saturday 16th and Sunday 24th March.
The first ever Barnes Music Festival will celebrate the work of one of Barnes most illustrious musicians, composer Gustav Holst (1874-1934), with the festival themed 'Holst and the English Tradition'. It will take place in venues in the Barnes area, ranging from St Marys Barnes to the famous Bull's Head and St Osmunds Hall.Over the nine days, the festival will bring together international artists including famous pianist Graham Johnson and the highly praised Tippett Quartet along with an array of performances, singers, jazz artists, and feature choral concerts by the Barnes Concert Band and St Marys Choir.
However, the festival will also serve as a showcase to local Barnes acts, featuring world premier performances of work by resident composers Tom Evans and Jim Parker.
Peter Rollings, chief executive of Marsh & Parsons, said "It is shaping up to be an exceptional event and we are pleased to have the opportunity to support and celebrate Barnes musical heritage and its thriving community. It may well be the first of its kind, but we have no doubt the festival will bring local residents together, and we are glad to do our bit to help. May it be the first of many in years to come."
Artistic Director Daniel Turner, Music Director at St Mary's Barnes, commented: "I am thrilled to be involved with this very first Barnes Music Festival. Over years to come, we aim to provide a forum for both established artists and up-coming musicians and to create an environment where talent can flourish and be nurtured. By working together with the many local music and community groups in the area, we will provide a welcome platform for performances of works by Holst, his friends and contemporaries and those influenced by him."
