Peter Rollings commenting following today’s lending figures from the BBA

Tuesday, 25 August 2009

"The chronic shortage in mortgage finance is stifling buyers who are ready and waiting to take advantage of competitive house prices. In the London market there’s growing competition amongst buyers and this is reflected in the narrowing gap between offers and asking prices, and prices which are recovering faster than other parts of the country. Elsewhere, it’s a different story. Buyers simply can’t obtain the finance needed to purchase homes and this is preventing a full-scale housing market revival. The government must exercise its considerable influence over the banks to push them to lend more."
