The Notting Hill home of fashionable London interior designer Tara O’Gorman has come onto the market with an asking price of £2,425,000.

Tara and her banker husband Michael bought the Victorian terraced house in 2006 and proceeded to redesign the space to make use of the light and space. From the front the house looks like a traditional stucco London terrace but from the back there is a highly contemporary feel which makes use of a window which stretches up from the old now excavated basement to the second floor.

Tara, whose company Tara Michelle Interiors, has retained traditional cornices, ceiling roses and sash windows inside, but , unlike other houses of this period it has double height ceilings and makes use of glass and steel but still has traditional features. The lower ground floor contains a contemporary kitchen and dining area as well as a snug containing a cinema and the house is wired for speakers that connect to i-pods.

Tara, 31, comments:  “My husband and I are thinking of relocating to Dublin where I want to expand my business. We set out to show what can be done to contemporize a typical 1840s house and to bring it up to 21st century standards.

“The south facing garden which has a water feature is also very contemporary and a tranquil place to sit.  We wanted a home but because of what I do I am keen to get on a tackle another project.”
